June 1 Plans

Hello Parents & Students,

We are excited to have students back in our building next week! We have been busy planning to ensure it is a safe and positive learning environment for everyone.

We know some of you have questions so we’ve put together a section on our website to help answer them. Please see it here: https://peacechristianschool.ca/parents/covid-19/. This also has details on your role in assessing your children every morning for signs of illness and keeping them home if any are present.

We also ask you to review proper hand washing practice with your family. Here are a couple of helpful videos for that:
For younger kids: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XWQARQrH3yA

For all of us: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4E7UkDlnvZA

If you have already let us know your plans, thank you! If not, please let your homeroom teacher know your thoughts.

And, we encourage each of our students to go for a walk this week and find something interesting to share with their house team during a school wide Zoom meeting on Friday at 9 (link will be shared later this week). Look forward to seeing you there!

Principal’s Update

Dear PCS Families,

By now you have likely heard that the Ministry has decided to initiate a partial return to school starting June 1. There are many points of view to consider with that reality, but in an attempt to keep it simple, I would like to provide some clarity on how we as a school community view what that will look like.
Our teachers are excited to have our students return, but the decision on whether to send them to school at this time will be completely up to you. If you feel that remote learning is still the preferred option for your family because it is working, we will still be providing that option, although there may be a reduction in the amount of work sent home as we approach the end of the school year, and depending on how many students are attending classes on a regular basis. For those parents who wish to have students return to school we are looking at inviting students K-5 to return for full days on Mondays and Wednesdays. Students in grades 6-12 will have classes available to them at the school on Mondays. We will provide greater detail on what specific guidelines will be in place at school, (for example filled water bottles from home each day), once the Ministry has approved our plans for physical distancing and upgraded cleaning procedures. We are not currently planning to coordinate with SD 59 for bussing accommodations. If having our PCS shuttle bus will enable your students to attend when they otherwise will not be able to do so, please let us know. Transportation to and from school will need to be something you consider as you make your decision on whether to have your child return to school for June 1.
The Ministry of Education has been very clear that parents will ultimately decide on what they feel is appropriate for their family with regard to a return to school. We will continue to support your child’s learning and your specific situation to the best of our ability. We are still in this together as a school family. From our point of view, the remote learning environment that has been our reality since Spring Break has been successful largely due to your cooperation and support. We are confident that this option can continue to be worthwhile for the remaining three weeks of school if that is your preference for delivering education to your child.
To allow our teachers to better prepare, we are asking that you let us know if you plan to have your child return to school or plan to continue with remote learning at home. Please continue to communicate with our teachers and/or the school if you have suggestions, concerns, or just want to provide positive feedback. We look forward to continuing to work with you to be successful in these less than ideal times, to provide learning opportunities for our students.

Moving forward,

Darren

Teacher Appreciation

Hello Parents & Students,

Happy week of green leaves to you! The tinge of green always helps lift my spirits this time of year.

It is Teacher Appreciation Week in the US and many Canadian schools are celebrating this week as well (though Canada has a Teacher Appreciation Day in October). Just like many of you are struggling at times to make this current life a good one, our teachers also have their moments of struggle. I’m asking your help to encourage them this week and show them that their work is appreciated.

Please choose one way and send it directly to the teacher(s), if possible. Picture and video posts to our Fb page or @pcschetwynd tagged on Instagram, would also be great! Here are some ideas:

Teachers (and assistants) to recognize are:

  • Mrs. B
  • Miss G
  • Mr. Scalliet
  • Miss D
  • Mr. Atherton
  • Miss Astleford
  • Mr. Arnesto
  • Mr. McAfee
  • Mr. Hoffmann
  • Pastor D
  • Mrs. Hunter
  • Miss Christie

Thank you so much for your time and effort to do this! Many of you have expressed appreciation to our teachers recently and it has made a difference. We all miss seeing you in our building 🙂

Take care,
Mrs. Atherton
