Friday Flash

Hello Families,

This feels like a strange end to February with such warm weather but I’m loving the beautiful sunsets each morning as we come to school. Our students are working well in their classrooms and continuing to make strides in their learning. Thank you for your continued work to assure they are here whenever possible and catching up at home as needed.

Please see the note below on bus safety around Windrem Elementary.

Wishing you a fabulous weekend!

No In Person Classes Wed

Hello Families,

There are no busses again today due to the continued cold. Please watch for learning activities sent home for at home learning. This is an expected part of their learning to keep on track for the school year. If you need your child(ren) at school to accomplish this learning and/or for childcare in order to work, we will do our best to have personnel at school. Please let your homeroom teacher know you are coming so we know who to expect.

Note:
– Hot lunch is moved to Thursday, Feb 6
– Powder King forms are still accepted tomorrow, however, due to a fairly cold forecast, the date may be moved.

Please reach out to your teachers or to the office if there is anything we can do to help (learning questions, school email passwords, etc.).

Take care,
Kristin

No Regular Classes Tuesday

Dear Families,
Today is another day with no regular classes. Gr 7-12 students and K-Gr 6 parents, will be sent an email with learning activities. Please ensure these assignments are done as much as possible to keep everyone on track with their learning.

Gr 3-6 students will be sent a link for a Zoom session today for a class announcement.

We will have a staff member at school to help with elementary students whose parents need care for them in order to work.

Please reach out to the teachers by Bloomz or email with any questions to do with the assignments. Hopefully this is enough cold to kill off the bad bugs and let us have warmer weather the rest of the winter 🙂

Stay safe and warm,
Mrs. Atherton

Resource for All Parents: Mental Health & Substance Use

Hello Families,

Open Parachute is a great program that we use in several of our classrooms. We appreciate the resource and so are passing along an opportunity of learning for you and encourage you to sign up if you are able. Please see the info below.

Regards,
Kristin

Mental Health and Substance Use Resource for Parents

The Ministry of Education and Child Care, in partnership with adolescent clinical psychologist Dr. Hayley Watson from Open Parachute, will host three, free virtual sessions for parents, guardians and caregivers that will focus on practical skills you can teach your child and youth (ages 0-19) to prevent substance use and mental health needs. These sessions will build on a previous presentation, which focused on practical conversation tools for speaking about substance use prevention with your children/youth. The previous session is not a pre-requisite for this session.

Key takeaways for participants during this session:

  • Learn the factors that lead to substance use and mental health needs from a trauma-informed lens
  • Focus on prevention rather than intervention/response
  • Applies to parents, guardians and caregivers of all age groups (youth aged 0-5, 6-10, and 11-18)
  • Learn ways that these skills can be applied to yourself and the rest of your family to support the mental health of parents, guardians and caregivers

Participants must register in advance. Session dates are:

We will do our best to have a staff member supervise a group of students at school so if you need childcare to work, please let your home room teacher know if you need that today.

Powder King ski forms will be due tomorrow.

Stay warm,
Kristin
