A reminder to wear an orange shirt tomorrow, if possible! This week we have learned and discussed about Canada’s Truth & Reconciliation Day and looked for ways we can make a better future together. Tomorrow we have a house team activity planned in the afternoon.

Friday Flash

Hi Families,

Friday is quickly drawing to a close of our third week of school. Students are looking more comfortable with the rhythm of school and what is expected of them. Connections are being made and we’re getting to know the students are new to us. So far off to a busy but great start!

This coming week is Truth & Reconciliation week and our teachers have planned specific learning and activities for our students. We want to recognize the difficulties of the past, better understand how that impacts us currently and work toward a more positive future. We hope to grow our community to celebrate diversity, understand each other, and respect the differences we each bring to our school.

Wishing each of you a fabulous weekend!

Mrs. Atherton

Friday Flash

Hello Families,

We have our first week under our belt! The Friday Flash is for news about what’s happening at school that goes out every week or two to help keep you in the loop. As always, please reach out to the classroom teacher or office if you have any questions or concerns.

Students are doing well at learning/remembering the structure of school and all it entails. Most of our students have come with water bottles and shoes, so thank you! High school parents, if you’re able to check in with your child about indoor shoes, that would be appreciated.

Enjoy your weekend and the beautiful weather tomorrow!

Phone & Bussing

Hello Families,

It was great to see so many smiling faces in our building today. The day went well, with a few bumps. One was our phones. Our main number was down today (788-2044) though our text line was still working (788-2043). Our apologies if you tried calling and didn’t get through. We believe the issue is now resolved.

A reminder that there is no bussing tomorrow (Wednesday). There are no busses into Windrem or from Windrem to PCS. We are sorry for the gap in service. Thursday and going forward, all busses are running their regular schedules. The busses to PCS leave between 8:15 and 8:20 and return at 2:45 pm.

Please reach out if you have any questions or concerns. We’re off to a great year!

Kristin/Mrs. Atherton

First Week of School

Hello Families,

Thank you to all who came out today! It was great to see you and you helped us be more prepared for the first day of school. We hope it also helps you know what to expect throughout the year.

We are still looking for part-time assistance with Reception and Education Assistant duties. The hours are great for a parent and there are a variety of tasks to keep it interesting 🙂 If you are interested or know of someone who may be, please let us know.

If you missed coming today, we will reach out to you and make a plan for completing the items we covered. Some of you let us know you were unable to attend, which is appreciated.

A note on bussing this coming week:
Tuesday – there are no SD59 busses into town, but there are busses from Windrem to PCS. Parent drop-off is 8:15 am and pick-up at 2:45 pm.
Wednesday there are no busses. Unfortunately, we were not able to have anything in place for this day.
Thursday & on – regular busses are running, both SD59 into town and the shuttle busses out to PCS. As on Tuesday, parent drop-off is 8:15 am and pick-up at 2:45 pm.

We have a few filing cabinets and a couple of shelves available by donation. Pictures are attached (shelves come with the boards for shelves). Please let us know if you would like something. The filing cabinets are good for storing all types of items, not just paper. They need to be moved within the coming week.

We look forward to seeing all the students back on Tuesday!

Have a great weekend,
Mrs. Atherton

Orientation Tomorrow

Our building is a flurry of activity in final preparations to greet you tomorrow (Thursday). We look forward to seeing both students and parents/guardians for orientation. Please come between 10 am and 4 pm for about an hour, visiting various stations to be prepared for this school year.

See you soon!

Getting Ready for School

Hello Families,

We hope your summer is going well and you’ve enjoyed the lovely weather we’ve had. As the weeks pass, this coming school year is coming closer and we are busy getting ready. Our building is messy with shelving being installed, floors being deep cleaned, and furniture being moved. Our teachers are starting next week at preparing their classrooms and plans for their classes.

To help you be prepared, here is a little information:

For our Kindergarten to Gr 6 students, we provide the majority of the school supplies needed. Each student needs to bring a reusable water bottle and indoor non-marking shoes (white soles are preferred). For our youngest students, please purchase shoes that do not have laces to tie until students are able to do this without assistance.

For Gr 7-12 students, here is our School Supply List. A water bottle and indoor non-marking shoes are still required. Cleats may also be preferred for PE classes outside on the field. A pair may be available at school if you would like.

Orientation Day is Thursday, August 29 from 10 am until 4 pm. We ask that all students and a parent come during this time. It typically takes 1-1.5 hours to go through the various stations and complete all the items needed. This helps us be prepared for the first day and you to be successful for the year.

Our first day of school is Tuesday, September 3. We start with regular times of 8:30 until 2:30. Another reminder and more information about bussing will come before then.

We are looking forward to seeing everyone in two weeks!

Until then,
Kristin/Mrs. Atherton

End of Year Note

Hi Families,

Remember us? 😀 School is mostly empty but there are still a few of us accomplishing tasks during the summer months to ensure a good September start. It’s peaceful but oddly quiet.

We said some hard goodbyes last week but will be saying some new hellos this summer and September so we are looking forward to that. Until then, enjoy your summer and the beautiful warm weather after a great rain!

Take care,
Mrs. Atherton

Looking Ahead

  • Thu Aug 29 – Orientation Day for all students
  • Tue Sep 3 – First day of school

To Do

  • Spend time with your kids doing activities you all love
  • Encourage your child to read and practice some math facts over the summer so thing don’t get too fuzzy by September
  • K to Gr 3 Families – we encourage you to take advantage of the $1200 Training & Education Savings Program Grant
  • Buy school related items before the start of next year:
    • All students need indoor shoes and a water bottle
    • Elementary students who cannot yet tie shoes need non-lace up shoes for safety reasons
    • Gr 7-12 student supply list
    • If your family is struggling to make ends meet at the moment and could use support to buy indoor shoes (or upper grade school supplies), feel free to text the school (or ask at orientation) and we can assist with the BC Family Affordability Fund

Good to Know

Shout Outs

  • To Mrs. Neumann for supporting our year end meal for students and staff (and sharing the leftovers at lake day!)
  • To Mr. Bunker (Sr & Jr) for supporting our field trip to Dawson Creek. Student feedback was overall positive and would like more time for activities there.
  • To all the parents, family and friends that showed up to graduation, awards, and lake day. Our students and staff felt supported.

Last Day!

Just a reminder that the bus going to Moberly Lake will be loading at 8:15-8:20. It will be loading again at noon and should be back by 12:30.

It won’t be a hot day but hopefully nice enough to still enjoy a few hours outside. Students need to bring water, snacks, warm clothes, hat, and an extra change of clothes is recommended. There will be a few items for games, potentially a camp fire, and some leftover food for a few to snack on.

Here’s to good weather tomorrow and a cheery end to our year!
