Gr 6-12 Survey

Hello Parents,

Tomorrow afternoon, our Gr 6-12 students will be participating in a survey about their faith, values, school life, and mental health. Part of our parent organization, the NAD Department of Education is conducting the project. All responses are completely anonymous; no risks or discomfort are expected and all information students give will be strictly confidential. The benefits of this research include: (a) understanding the students’ perspectives on faith, school, and personal life and (b) enhancing our student services and improving our education. Parents have the right to exempt their students from the survey without any harm or disadvantages to the students.

A letter from the organizers is attached. If you have any concerns regarding the survey, please call the school.

Have a great weekend!
Kristin

Parent Teacher Conferences

Hello Parents,

Just a reminder that tomorrow (Wed) and Thursday we have parent teacher conferences scheduled. Appointments will be by zoom, unless otherwise arranged. If you have not received your time(s) and zoom link(s) by email, please let us know as soon as possible. You can email our office or call the school to verify the time, or make other arrangements.

We recognize your time is important and appreciate you making these appointments a priority. For everyone’s benefit, we will do our best to keep on schedule. There is a small amount of time allowed for technology difficulties but please do your best to be on time and we ask for your patience if you are in the zoom ‘waiting room’ for 5-10 minutes.

We are looking forward to collaborating with you!

Kristin

This Week & Next

Thank you for everyone’s support in keeping students home when ill. You have been amazing at following the guidelines and cooperative when a student starts to not feel well at school. We’ve had most students in attendance this week so we’re happy to see that bugs aren’t spreading. Please continue to encourage your children to wear masks when at all possible and to regularly clean their hands. Hopefully we can stay well and be able to learn together as much as possible.

A couple of notes for this week and next:

Friday, Oct 22 – No SD 59 busses. PCS has a regular day and our shuttle bus will still run at the regular times.

Wed & Thu Oct 27 & 28 – Parent Teacher Interviews. We will be doing these via zoom, starting after school. If you prefer to do yours in person or need a specific time on those days, please call or email our office and we will do our best to accommodate your request. We’re seeing great learning among our students and we want to work with you to help them achieve their best this year.

Stay well!

World Teacher’s Day – Tuesday

Hi Families,
Tuesday, October 4 (tomorrow) is World Teacher’s Day. Our teachers have a huge amount of dedication to your children and it would mean a lot to them if you are able to send those involved in your family with a quick note of appreciation. I encourage you to scribble in your child’s agenda book, send a text or email, or go all out with a video, special drink or gift.
Cheers,
Kristin

Masks for K – Gr 3

Dear Families,

As you may have already heard, the Ministry of Education has implemented a new change to help stop the spread of Covid among students at school. Their guidelines have been updated "to require masks for kindergarten to Grade 3 students. The rollout will begin on Monday, October 4 when all students in B.C. schools will be required to wear a mask when inside a school building, including while at their desks and on buses. This measure builds on the existing guidelines that currently apply to all students in Grades 4 to 12."

So, starting Monday, please send all children/students to school with a clean mask daily. We recognize this is a difficult change and we will do our best to implement this change with care.

We know there are quite a few local families struggling with Covid in their households so we request you continue to do your part to limit visiting indoors, keep your children home when they are not feeling well (and get tested for Covid as applicable), consider vaccination, and encourage your children to wear masks and clean their hands regularly.

Keep courage and stay kind to each other as we are all in this life together. And enjoy the last few days of these beautiful leaves on the trees 🙂

Next week

Hello Parents,

A quick reminder of happenings next week:

Monday – No School for our teachers to do professional development
Thursday – No School for Truth & Reconciliation Day. Our staff will be doing education around truth & reconciliation and we encourage each family to take time to do some learning or reflection as well. Together we can make our community a better place for everyone.
Friday – Orange Shirt Day recognition. We ask our students to wear orange on this day to recognize Truth & Reconciliation week. We will also have a school wide assembly.
Sun, Oct 3 – Ghost Mountain Grunt – Students or families are invited to come and challenge themselves to a 10 km run or 2 km walk. Registration starts at 10 am, bus leaves at 10:45. $15/person (or $10/person if multiple people in one family participate).

September is passing quickly and our students are digging into their learning. It is neat to see their efforts in their work.

Enjoy the beautiful fall colours out there!

Camp Outs

Hello Families,

School is in full force and we’ve started out strong. We had a great camp out last weekend with our upper grade students. Thank you to all the families who participated.

Our Gr 5-8 campout is scheduled for this weekend. Despite the questionable weather, we are going ahead with the campout. We are starting at 4 pm on Saturday and ask that students be picked up by 11 am on Sunday. If students would like to come just for Saturday afternoon/early evening and then go home, that is perfectly fine and we’d love to still have them participate! For those staying overnight, please send lots of bedding to stay warm (and a change of clothes is a good idea). Depending on if and how much it rains, we may spend some of our time inside (while wearing masks). Either way, we plan to have fun with food and games!

Enjoy your weekend!

Reminder on Illness

Hello! Just a reminder that if your child isn’t feeling well, please go to BC COVID-19 Self-Assessment Tool (thrive.health) and complete it. This will let you know if your child needs a Covid-19 test and result before they may return to school. If a Covid-19 test is needed, call 1-844-645-7811 for a referral to the Chetwynd Primary Care Clinic where the test will be completed. Please complete these steps before sending your child back to school.

Thank you for doing your part to keep everyone as healthy as possible!
