Getting Ready for School

Hello Families,

We hope your summer is going well and you’ve enjoyed the lovely weather we’ve had. As the weeks pass, this coming school year is coming closer and we are busy getting ready. Our building is messy with shelving being installed, floors being deep cleaned, and furniture being moved. Our teachers are starting next week at preparing their classrooms and plans for their classes.

To help you be prepared, here is a little information:

For our Kindergarten to Gr 6 students, we provide the majority of the school supplies needed. Each student needs to bring a reusable water bottle and indoor non-marking shoes (white soles are preferred). For our youngest students, please purchase shoes that do not have laces to tie until students are able to do this without assistance.

For Gr 7-12 students, here is our School Supply List. A water bottle and indoor non-marking shoes are still required. Cleats may also be preferred for PE classes outside on the field. A pair may be available at school if you would like.

Orientation Day is Thursday, August 29 from 10 am until 4 pm. We ask that all students and a parent come during this time. It typically takes 1-1.5 hours to go through the various stations and complete all the items needed. This helps us be prepared for the first day and you to be successful for the year.

Our first day of school is Tuesday, September 3. We start with regular times of 8:30 until 2:30. Another reminder and more information about bussing will come before then.

We are looking forward to seeing everyone in two weeks!

Until then,
Kristin/Mrs. Atherton

End of Year Note

Hi Families,

Remember us? 😀 School is mostly empty but there are still a few of us accomplishing tasks during the summer months to ensure a good September start. It’s peaceful but oddly quiet.

We said some hard goodbyes last week but will be saying some new hellos this summer and September so we are looking forward to that. Until then, enjoy your summer and the beautiful warm weather after a great rain!

Take care,
Mrs. Atherton

Looking Ahead

  • Thu Aug 29 – Orientation Day for all students

Shout Outs

  • To Mr. Bunker (Sr & Jr) for supporting our field trip to Dawson Creek. Student feedback was overall positive and would like more time for activities there.

Last Day!

Just a reminder that the bus going to Moberly Lake will be loading at 8:15-8:20. It will be loading again at noon and should be back by 12:30.

It won’t be a hot day but hopefully nice enough to still enjoy a few hours outside. Students need to bring water, snacks, warm clothes, hat, and an extra change of clothes is recommended. There will be a few items for games, potentially a camp fire, and some leftover food for a few to snack on.

Here’s to good weather tomorrow and a cheery end to our year!

Tomorrow’s Field Trip

Hi Families,

We’re loading the bus outside Windrem between 8:15 and 8:20 tomorrow.

K-Gr 6: please bring a sack lunch, water bottle, swim gear. A hat and sunscreen are also good as the morning will be outside.

Gr 7-10: please bring a sack lunch and water bottle or $ for the concession.

K-Gr 8 will be back at Windrem about 2:45 pm. Gr 9 and 10 students will be back at IGA about 4:30.

Looking forward to a fun day!

  • Our school board is reviewing our cell phone/device policy for next school year. Many Gr 7-12 students struggle with the distraction it creates during school hours. A survey on your thoughts will be going home next week on how we can best help our students be successful here at school.
  • You are prayed for! Every morning our staff meets to pray and it often includes our students and their families. We know that life presents many struggles and it can be tough! Know that God is walking with you on your journey and cares for you.

Shout Outs

  • To Cameron Turner for fixing an electrical plug for us
  • To our parent committee for showing our staff appreciation. Your support helps us have a lower staff turnover than in many schools (and therefore a better program for the students!).

Garbage Day Tomorrow

Hi Families,

Tomorrow (Thursday) is our annual garbage pickup day. Being a responsible citizen and giving back to our community are important characteristics for individuals to have so we have a happy, healthy society. We participate in road/highway clean-up to help instill this in our students. Our K-Gr 1 class will be walking around the Dokkie subdivision collecting garbage, our Gr 2-12 students will be along the highway between town and our school.

Students will be briefed on highway safety and provided with a reflective vest and gloves to wear. We will be out for a few hours and hopefully be done around lunch time. If you are able to attend, we would love some volunteers to join us (our apologies for the late notice). After lunch we will have a treat and a house team activity.

Please ensure your child wears appropriate clothing and shoes for tomorrow:

– Good walking footwear or rubber boots

– Sweater/jacket & long pants (morning will be chilly)

– Water bottle

– Snacks and/or sack lunch

– Sun protection (hat or sunscreen)

Watch for us along the highway and honk as you pass. It will look much better by the end of tomorrow 😊
