Fri June 10 – No school (Non-instructional Day)

Thu June 9 & 16 at 3-3:45 pm – Free yoga class – High school students and all parents are invited to join staff for two free introductory yoga classes by Kathy Swanson. Please wear comfortable clothes (and bring a yoga mat if you own one).

Fri June 17 – WAC Bennett Dam field trip

Fri June 24 – Gr 12 Graduation

Tue Jun 28 – Awards Day – All parents and/or family members are invited. We are planning for our elementary program to start at 12:30 with our high school program to follow.

We wish everyone an enjoyable weekend!

Lost & Found & New Teacher

Hello Families,
With the warm weather we went through our Lost and Found bin. Attached are pictures of items not yet claimed by students. Please let us know if you recognize anything.
We would also like to extend our warm welcome to Candice Jones who will be joining our teaching staff next school year. She is passionate about young people, the outdoors, and the arts and we are looking forward to having her expertise at our school. She came for a visit this last weekend to learn a bit more about our school and community. Miss Jones will be teaching our Gr 5/6 homeroom, as well as our French classes and Visual Arts. We are grateful for all the time and passion Mr. Scalliet has dedicated to our students and will miss him as he moves to another school. We wish him all the best in his next steps!
Enjoy the lovely weather this week!

Garbage Pickup Tomorrow (Thur)

Just a reminder that we will be spending part of tomorrow cleaning up our neighborhood. We are looking forward to serving our community. So far the weather suggests a sweater, sunscreen, water (and potentially a snack) are all good items to bring. Good walking shoes and rubber boots are also needed. It’s always a great feeling to see things looking better when we are done!

Upcoming Events

Happy long weekend to all our families! Here are a few items to note:

Mon, May 23 – No School

Wed, May 25 – Last swimming day (a fun day!) for K-Gr 6

Thu, May 26 – Garbage pick-up day – We encourage all our students to participate and are looking for parent volunteers as well, particularly for K-2 & Gr 3-4. Service is an integral part of our educational program as we develop young people to be great community citizens.

This is an important day for us to give back to our community, making our environment healthier and prettier for us and for others. Our staff are thankful for this opportunity to serve alongside our students and have fun while doing it!

Fri, Jun 3 – Field trip to WAC Bennett Dam – This will be a school-wide field trip and parents are invited to participate.

Tue, Jun 28 – School Awards Day – Parents are invited to attend our awards ceremony. More information to come.

Full accreditation for six more years – In addition to our BC Ministry of Education evaluation completed this past fall, we recently completed our full school evaluation by the Seventh-day Adventist Education system, which has over 900 schools in North America. The accreditation team found we showed high quality student learning and demonstrated goals and plans for continuous school improvement. We are thankful to have received full accreditation for another six years and appreciate each staff member for a great job done! Thank you also to our parents and students who participated in the surveys and interviews for the accreditation team. They said our students represented the school well.

Plans for high school students – We are reviewing goals, classes and plans with our high school students for next year and future years. More details to come about an information session for Gr 6-8 parents and individual appointments for Gr 9-11 students.

We hope each family has an enjoyable long weekend and wishing our Grade 12’s well on their class trip!

Blessings,

Mrs. Atherton

Monday – Pizza Day

Monday is the start of our Week of Prayer and so we’ve chosen to make the day special with a free pizza day! Please send snacks and/or whatever else your child may want to eat along with the pizza (fruit, veggies, etc.).

Pizza is jointly sponsored by the Chetwynd Public Library (as a thank you for participating in their card project earlier this year) and our Student Association.

Have a great weekend!

Did you know?

Did you know this week is teacher appreciation week? We encourage you or your child(ren) to write a note of thanks to his/her/their teacher(s) for all the effort they put into our program. They are what make the program at PCS so special.

Did you know our senior football team achieved third place in the tournament? We are proud of them for working well together as a team and representing our school well in their attitudes and actions. A big thank you to our sponsors who made it happen: Mr. McAfee, Mrs. King and Pastor & Mrs. D.

Did you know we still have covid tests at school? If you need any, please let us know. As always, we encourage those who are not feeling well (from any kind of bug) to stay home until symptoms are better.

Did you know we are completing a full school evaluation? Some of our students participated in student interviews today. Thank you to those students and to all who filled out surveys prior to this week.

We are thankful for warmer temps today and for the Burman choir coming to present in our building this evening. We invite all who are able to come out and listen to their performance!

No School Tomorrow + More

Hello Families,

We currently have many of our older students on our senior flag football tournament in Aldergrove. So far their travels are going well so we’re praying for a safe and fun weekend for them. A few reminders of upcoming events:

Tomorrow (Fri) – No School

Tues May 3 at 7:00 – Burman University choir is visiting us and will be having a performance that is free for all to attend. A freewill offering will be taken. A great opportunity for good music and an uplifting experience.

Wed May 4 – First swimming day for K-Gr 6. Pickup will be at the pool at 2:35 for most students. Please let your homeroom teacher know if your child needs to be walked to the bus transfer stop to meet an older sibling or go home on a SD59 bus. Swimming will be every M/W/F with the last day on May 25.

Mon May 16 – Last day for registration discount for 2022/23

We also have several guests visiting the next few weeks:
– Members of our school evaluation team will be here next week
– ICBC, police, and fire will be presenting to our students on Thurs May 5

– Sven Tornlov, a guest speaker for our Week of Spiritual Emphasis will be here May 9-13

We are looking forward to the value and input that the guests will bring!

Here’s to warmer days showing in the weather forecast 🙂

Due to poor road conditions, all busses are cancelled today and we will not be having classes. If you have a ride for your children and need them to be at school today, please let your home room teacher know. The sun will shine again soon!–
