Thank You & Positions Open

Dear Families,

We’ve completed another successful school year! We enjoyed our time with your children and are grateful you chose us as the place for them to learn and grow.

Thank you – There are many people who make our school the place it is – our staff, our board, our families. Our lake day was heavily supported by a meal donated by Robert’s Towing, prepared by the Widdicombe family, and transportation for the day by the Bunker family. Our students had fun and we enjoyed the (mostly) lovely weather on Wednesday. Thank you to our families for making times at PCS extra special!

A big thank you from our staff to all of the parents who participated in running our hot lunch program and making food – your contributions added up and supported our program throughout the year. Classrooms benefited from donations and our staff appreciated their year end gift of a meal from the Parent Committee. Thank you!

Staff Changes – As happens in life, change is always present and we say goodbye to a few staff members from this year: Mrs. B, Miss Jones, Mrs. Fowler, and Miss Christie. We appreciate their contributions to our school and wish them well in their next steps. In the coming weeks our new teachers are moving into town and we are excited for their arrival. Watch our social media feeds for a little more about them πŸ™‚

Positions Open – We are looking for a couple of people to help complete our team for next school year. Please email our office (or Mrs. Atherton directly) if you or someone you know is interested in the position of Secretary or Educational Assistant. We are looking for individuals who will interact in a positive way with our students and work well with our team. Job position details will be available on our website next week.

We encourage all our students to spend a little time with academic activities over the summer to help them retain their learning for the fall. Reading is great for any age and reviewing math facts, games or problem solving projects are also good to add.

We look forward to seeing everyone again for Orientation on August 31! Our first day of school is September 5 and other calendar dates can be found at https://peacechristianschool.ca/calendar/.

This summer, "may you experience the love of Christ…and may you be filled with the fullness of life and power that comes from God.” (Ephesians 3:16, NLT)

See you back soon!
Mrs. Atherton

Last Week Details

Hello Families,

It’s the last week of school! We enjoyed celebrating our Gr 12 graduates this weekend and the weather promises to be beautiful for our last day events. Here are a few things to note:

Mon Jun 26 – Tumbler Ridge trip – All students will meet our PCS bus at the regular bus stop outside of Windrem for drop-off (8:20-8:30) and pick up (2:30-2:45). Please remember water, lunch, and hiking shoes.

Tue Jun 27 – Awards Day – Parents are invited to join us and we encourage all students to be present. Program starts with elementary at 10 am. We will be finished by 12 pm. After lunch we have a house team challenge and prizes to give out.

Wed Jun 28 – Moberly Lake day – Once again, all students wanting transportation will meet our PCS bus outside of Windrem between 8:20 and 8:30 am. Families are welcome to join us at the lake for the day. Please remember a change of clothing, hat/sunscreen, and snack if desired. Lunch is donated for all.

Thu Jun 29 – Half day – Homerooms have parties planned. Dismissal is at noon. Please plan to pick up your child(ren) as there will be no shuttle bus that afternoon.

If you have not yet confirmed your child’s enrolment for next year, please let us know as soon as possible. We are completing our supply orders and classroom arrangements and one or two students can make a difference. We also recommend you pay your fees now (or send us instalments) so September is easier for you! We have room in most of our classrooms, so if there are siblings or friends who may want to attend, let us know πŸ™‚

We’re looking forward to spending some fun time with our students this week and celebrating their achievements!

Garbage Pickup Day

Hello Families,

Our garbage pickup day is scheduled for this Thursday, May 11* with a fun activity afterwards. We would love some parent volunteers to help for part of the day so please let us know if you are available (walking or vehicle support). This is a great opportunity to give back to our community and support our school at the same time.

Cheers for a great start to your week!

~Mrs. Atherton

*Our thoughts are with all those evacuated and fighting fires. If the smoky skies continue the day will be rescheduled.

School on Mon May 1

A note that we do have school on May 1. SD 59 does not have school so there will be no bussing to Chetwynd but we will have a shuttle bus from Windrem to PCS and back at the end of the day. Parents of K-Gr 6 students need to pick up children from the Rec Centre after their swimming lessons at 2:35. Have a great weekend!

Registration, swimming & more

Hello Families,

April has sped by and is coming to a close. We enjoyed a puppet presentation during our chapel this morning so a big thank you to our Gr 9 & 10 students for their work to put it together with Pastor Neil.

Registration for Next Year: This Monday, May 1 will be the last day for the discounted cost for registering. For the next few days the cost is:
– K-Gr 5: $295
– Gr 6-9: $340
– Gr 10-12: $375

Swimming: A reminder for K – Gr 6 to bring swimwear on Monday for their swimming lessons every Mon/Wed/Fri for the next three weeks. Pickup will be at the Rec Centre at the end of the day.

Grad Planning Meetings: We are inviting our Gr 9 – 11 students and parents to meet with us for graduation and post-secondary planning. Please watch for an email regarding specifics.

Questions? Concerns? Reach out and let us know! We like to know about things we can address.

Our senior football team is off to play this weekend so we hope and pray for a safe and fun weekend for them! There are beautiful weather days predicted so we wish upon each of you sunshine and time spent outside enjoying God’s creation together.

Warmly,
Kristin

Easter & More

Hello Families,

We hope you had a great spring break and that you are enjoying the weather forecast as much as we are! Here are a few notes for this week:

Field Trip to Horse Barn: Yesterday a permission slip went home with elementary students (and a few more) regarding our fun barn session next Friday. Please return it by tomorrow if at all possible and by Thursday at the latest so appropriate arrangements can be made.

No School Fri & Mon: A reminder that there is no school on Friday, April 7 and Monday, April 10 for Easter weekend. The miracle of the season gives us reason to celebrate and we are thankful to have time off of school to do so.

Canadian Achievement Tests: Next week and the following week, our Gr 3-9 students will be participating in the Canadian Achievement Tests (CAT). These tests measure aspects of their reading, writing and math skills. We encourage you to do your best to ensure your child attends regularly, gets enough sleep, and eats breakfast. We want each child to do their best to accurately reflect their skills to themselves, to you and to us. We use these tests to help guide our program planning for classes, as well as individual students.

Gr 12 Literacy Assessment: Our Literacy 12 assessment date moved to Wed April 26th instead of the 25th. This is a graduation requirement.

May God bless you with faith and family this Easter!

Report cards are going home with students tomorrow. Below is a reminder of the provincial grading scale that we are moving toward (implemented with many grades already). Please contact the teacher if you have any questions about the report card.
