Each year, PCS sponsors four adventure races in the Chetwynd area. One to three member teams compete in a race involving three disciplines: canoeing, mountain biking, and running.

Adventure Race Chetwynd takes place the third Sunday in June and is open to the community.  PCS students with courage have first opportunity at the limited number of team reservations.

Junior Adventure Race takes place the first Sunday in June and is an introduction to the bigger race for our students in Grades 3-7.  Parents are encouraged to participate with their children if they feel more comfortable having the support to give it a try.

In May, individual racers can test their will by cycling during the four hour Loopee Challenge on Mt. Baldy.

One more reason to stay physically active is the Ghost Mtn Grunt which takes place in the the fall.

The mountain bike race course is a 3.5 km loop which is a mix of fun flowing single-track and fire road. The race should be achievable by intermediate mountain bike riders with a reasonable level of fitness. The course itself is achievable by all except for the complete novice or inexperienced mountain bike rider. Each lap of the course will take an average of 20-40 minutes.

Each rider must have a bike helmet while on the course.  A hydration pack is recommended but not required.

The Registration Fee for the Loopee is $10.

Sr Adventure Race

June 2018

The Chetwynd Adventure Race is a 2-part race involving the disciplines of Mountain biking and trail running/trekking. Competitors will form a two or three-person team, or compete on their own, based on the criteria of the competition categories. To enter as a high school team, all team members must be attending a Jr. high or high school. Adult teams will have one or more adults.

Teams will complete each section of the race together (within 100m), navigating through a marked course and traveling through mandatory checkpoints to the finish line as quickly as possible. To be officially ranked all three members of the team must finish together.

This years edition of the race includes two courses.  The A course is designed to challenge teams and is the more competitive course.  The B course is shorter in length and is designed for the teams who are looking to try the adventure race in a less competitive environment or are hoping to get a feel for the race for the first time.  The race will take approximately 5 to 7 hours to complete.

Cross Country Mountain Biking

This section will be primarily on gravel roads and single track trails with elevation gains and descents. All roads and trails will be marked. The approximate distance for the B course is 40 km and the A course is 45 km. Light bikes are a plus – heavy dual suspension will be a hindrance.

Trail Running/Trekking

This will be done primarily on marked trails. The A course’s approximate distance is 12 km, while the B course run section is shorter.
